The new setup has the day time and traditional folk bit dead right.
Things such as Danny Spooner and Bruce Watsons' history, stories, presentations and workshops.
Troubadour was the most popular venue with its acoustic atmosphere. The new location is a great setting with shade protection, and even a playground to keep distracted children occupied while parents watch the acts..
The highlight for Donna and myself was First Songs in the Troubadour.
Unsung Heroes was the most outstanding presentation, and Donna and I would like to catch up with the 2 hour version in Melbourne sometime. This and Scots and WW1 were really so moving, solemn.
Lets hope the Festival never loses this.
The Festival needs a stronger headliner on the Friday night to bring people earlier and establish the presence of people and the atmosphere for the rest of the weekend.
The Festival needs one venue at night time (the Maldon) with a bit more oomph, a good blues or folk rock band, 2 sets at night.
Also need more upbeat bands in the Maldon to compete and keep punters interested. Acts like Geoff Achison and Kavisha but as the main attraction with 2 sets mid evening.
It would be good to the see Saturday night Blues Concert return at the Footy Club.
Again Donna and I think it would be good to see more stuff in cafes, staying open later.
I lament and feel for those who enjoyed the camp at The Butts, the music and the atmosphere.. But it had been dying a long and prolonged death and it's time had gone. I suspect actually that there will be very little camping at The Butts next year, and this should be anticipated by expanding, and promoting, camping at the Bill Woodfull Reserve. Perhaps up in the horse paddock near the tennis courts.
I think we survived the weekend a bit better as it was a bit quieter at the Badges than in previous years.
As much as we enjoyed it, we couldn't believe how much we missed out on. Could you put the whole thing on again next weekend so we can catch the other stuff we didn't see?
Donna enjoyed it much more than last year, and for me it was the best Maldon Folk Festival in quite a few years!
